What the Technician Found
On this job, the washer wasn't draining. Water was sitting in the tub with nowhere to go. This kind of fault usually traces back to the drain pump itself — either the pump motor has failed, the impeller inside has cracked or jammed, or something has lodged in the pump housing and stopped it from moving water out of the machine.
The Repair
The technician replaced the washer drain pump. This is the component responsible for pushing water out of the tub and through the drain hose during the drain and spin portions of the cycle. Once it fails, or gets partially blocked, the washer has no way to clear the water, and the control board will often just stop the cycle rather than proceeding into spin with a full tub.
After installing the new pump the technician ran the washer through a full cycle to confirm it was draining properly and that there were no leaks around the new connection.
