What a Viking refrigerator is like to work on
Viking refrigeration turns up far less often than the ranges, usually as part of a matched suite in a kitchen designed around the cooking. It is diagnosed like any built-in: airflow at the condenser first, and only then anything electrical.
Model lines we service
What we open one for
Not holding temperature
Condenser airflow before anything else. These are installed tight into cabinetry and the clearance the coil needs is often not what it got.
Door not closing or sealing properly
The door closer or the gasket. Heavy panelled doors put real load on both.
Evaporator fan noise or frost buildup
The defrost circuit, with the fan striking ice as the audible symptom.
Parts and what they cost
Current parts are obtainable without long waits. Older Viking refrigeration is thinner on the ground and worth checking before ordering.
Most refrigerator jobs land between $150 and $450, parts included, and the $150 minimum service call is part of that rather than on top of it.
When to call Viking instead of us
If your Viking is inside its manufacturer warranty, go to Viking first — the repair should be covered and we would only be adding a bill to it. Out of warranty, and particularly on older units, we are usually the more sensible call.
Answered
- Is Viking refrigeration as good as the ranges?
- It is a competent built-in, but the ranges are what the brand is known for and what we open most. Where a suite was bought together, the refrigeration usually needs less than the cooking does.
