Error codes

Frigidaire error codes,
and what each one costs you.

Frigidaire has one of the more useful code sets in the mainstream market, and the refrigerator codes in particular name the circuit outright — SY EF says the evaporator fan, and that is a diagnosis rather than a hint. The oven control codes are equally direct and matter more than most, because they separate a cheap membrane from an expensive control board before anything is ordered. The same set applies to Electrolux, which shares the platform.

Codes are not standardised between manufacturers, and they move between model years within one. Everything below is what these codes mean on the series named beside them — if your model is older or newer, treat this as a strong hint rather than a verdict, and send us a photo of the model plate when you book. That plate settles it, and it takes ten seconds.

01 — Reading it

Where the code shows up

Refrigerators alternate the code with the temperature on the front display. Ovens show it on the clock. On laundry, the code appears where the cycle time sits, and on some models only after the door is opened and closed once.

What the labels beside each code mean

Not a fault
The machine is working as designed. No part, no visit.
Try this first
Safe to check yourself, and often the whole answer.
Needs a technician
Testing, parts, or somewhere it is not safe to go alone.

Refrigerator codes

SY EF

Refrigerator
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
The evaporator fan circuit has failed to report correctly.
What puts it there
Ice around the blade — which points at the defrost circuit — then the fan motor, then its wiring.
True for
Frigidaire French-door and side-by-side refrigerators.

SY CE

Refrigerator
Try this first
What the machine is reporting
The control boards have lost communication with each other.
What puts it there
A harness or connector, frequently at the hinge where it flexes. Sometimes clears with a power cycle.
Before you call anyone
Unplug at the wall for five minutes and restore. If it returns, it is a connector rather than a glitch.
True for
Frigidaire refrigerators with a front display.

dF / df

Refrigerator
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
A defrost fault — the cycle ran and did not achieve what it should.
What puts it there
Defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or the adaptive defrost control.
True for
Frigidaire refrigerators.

OP / SH

Refrigerator
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
A temperature sensor is reading open (OP) or shorted (SH).
What puts it there
The sensor itself or its connector. Which compartment it names tells us where to go.
True for
Frigidaire refrigerators.
03Oven / Range

Oven / Range codes

F10

Oven / Range
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
Runaway temperature — the oven got hotter than commanded and shut down.
What puts it there
The temperature probe reading low, or a relay on the electronic oven control welded closed. Testing the probe separates them, and the difference in cost is large.
True for
Frigidaire ranges and wall ovens with an EOC.

F11

Oven / Range
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
A key on the touch panel is registering as stuck.
What puts it there
The membrane, most often — and this is the entry worth reading before agreeing to a control board. Both faults present as a dead or erratic panel and only one of them is expensive.
Before you call anyone
Cut power for five minutes. If F11 returns with nothing touched, the membrane is the suspect.
True for
Frigidaire ranges with a touch panel.

F30 / F31

Oven / Range
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
The oven temperature probe circuit is open (F30) or shorted (F31).
What puts it there
The probe or its harness at the oven wall.
True for
Frigidaire ovens.

F90

Oven / Range
Needs a technician
What the machine is reporting
The self-clean door lock motor is not reaching its position.
What puts it there
The lock motor, its switch, or an obstruction at the latch.
True for
Frigidaire ovens with motorised self-clean lock.
04Washer

Washer codes

E10 / E11

Washer
Try this first
What the machine is reporting
The machine did not fill in time.
What puts it there
Taps, hoses, inlet screens, then the valve.
Before you call anyone
Taps fully open, hoses unkinked, screens rinsed at the machine end.
True for
Frigidaire front-load washers.

E20 / E21

Washer
Try this first
What the machine is reporting
The machine could not drain in time.
What puts it there
The pump filter or an obstruction in it, then the pump, then the drain hose.
Before you call anyone
Lower access panel, towel down, clear the filter.
True for
Frigidaire front-load washers.
