Maytag has been built by Whirlpool since 2006, and the codes are Whirlpool codes — the same F-and-E pairing, on the same platforms. The Bravos top-loaders are the exception worth knowing: they use their own short set, mostly two characters, and F51 in particular gets misread as a motor failure when it is a sensor. Pre-2006 Neptune machines predate all of this and follow no system listed here.
Codes are not standardised between manufacturers, and they move between model years within one. Everything below is what these codes mean on the series named beside them — if your model is older or newer, treat this as a strong hint rather than a verdict, and send us a photo of the model plate when you book. That plate settles it, and it takes ten seconds.
Machines with a display show the code where the cycle time sits. Bravos models show a short code on the estimated-time display. On anything without a display, count the blink pattern. The tech sheet in the plastic pouch under the console gives the diagnostic entry sequence for your exact model.
